CASA Names Winner in Ape Contest

The winner was announced Wednesday in the contest to name the over-sized stuffed ape.  Libby Arnold was named as grand prize winner for naming him “Euel B. Happy.”  Arnold, whose grandmother, Ann Rogers, has been a CASA volunteer since 1996, said from talking to her grandmother, she knew that CASA volunteers do “a lot for hurt children.”  She was also concerned about the hurt children being sad as well.  However, Mrs. Rogers, assured her that CASAs helped the children find safe homes and that each child was given hope that “You’ll be happy.”  Libby was presented the stuffed ape

and a $100 savings bond from First State Bank – Athens.

Also participating was Darla Williams’ fourth grade class in Murchison.  Macy Williams was awarded second prize and a $100 savings bond from Franklin Bank – Athens.  She felt that the ape should be named Mr. Snowball because of his looks.  She also related how, like abused children, gorillas are losing their homes due to loggers.  Her wish was that people would “have enough love to adopt a child” and add more love to their family.

Olin Reed placed third.  He also wanted to name the ape Snowball because he is big and fluffy.  His hopes were to win the ape and give him to his friend Jake who has leukemia and because Jake is such a special friend to him.  Olin was awarded a $50 savings bond from Citizens National Bank – Athens.

CASA would also like to express a big thanks to the First State Bank, Franklin Bank and Citizens National Bank for their support in the contest.  Without the gracious support of the community, CASA would not be able to serve the needs of the children in the Henderson County Foster Care system.
